Bioluminescence Experience in Holbox

1.Bioluminescence Experience in Holbox

★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 378 reviews · 1 hour 30 minutes (approx.) Our pick

Meet guide Alex, Javier, or Alan for a late-night Holbox outing to see bioluminescent plankton in shallow water near the island. Pickup, buggy transport, wetsuits, water shoes, masks, snorkels, and a certified guide are included. Expect stargazing, a short walk, mosquitoes, and timing based on the moon.

“I loved that Alex pointed out all of the major constellations to us and did the whole tour in both Spanish and English. You could see so many stars, it was amazing. The bioluminescence was really magical to see, and we got zero mosquito bites. The zooming ride to and from the hotel was also really fun! We were provided wetsuits and goggles for protection from mosquitoes which I really appreciated and was a reason I booked this tour over other bioluminescence tours. It was really cool to go to such a remote area on this beautiful island.”

“The trip was cancelled because of very expected rain. They didn't cancel it during the day or before we started. They first picked us up, drove for 30 minutes and only then checked the weather when we got to the beach. I also texted them 4 hours before about the weather and they just replied "we'll see". Very unprofessional.”

“Overall a good experience to learn about and see the bioluminescent algae! Tour guide was lovely and very knowledgable. We got picked up and taken to the beach near mosquito point, kayaked out to the split and then swam with the algae. One note to say would the taxi for 5 meant that 2 of us were in the trailer part of a golf cart - this was fine for us, but wouldn’t be for everyone! It was priced a little high for what you got for your money compared to other longer tours that include food, drinks etc.”

“It must be mentioned this tour started in Huatulco, as such it has an affect on the rating. This had its good and bad points: Bad Points: Entrance fees to both the turtle release and the bioluminescence are NOT included in the price of the tour. Our tour guide was very friendly, however not very fluent in English, therefor making the journey very long and short on conversation and exchange of information about the area. Good points: The turtle release was interesting, individuals were given 1 baby turtle to release into the ocean. The bonus is the beautiful sunset. Bad Point: Nothing to see here except for the caged area…”
