Leave central Mexico City at 6:20 a.m. for Teotihuacan before the worst heat and crowds. A bilingual guide leads you along the Avenue of the Dead, past major pyramids, murals, and temples, followed by an obsidian workshop and optional Mexican lunch. Guides such as Alan, Antonio, Lily, and Alex have earned especially warm praise, but lunch and shopping stops may not suit everyone.

“Everyone was kind and helpful. The bus ride was comfortable. The food after was pretty ok too. Once getting to the site I would ask for your ticket. We decided to use the bathroom at gate 2 and they wouldn’t let us in because we didn’t have the site ticket. So make sure and get that. We had to buy another one to get back in. I would also suggest that starting early at the moon pyramid would make more sense. By the time we got there it was crowded. These are just my ideas but still I enjoyed it.”

Add three hours at the pyramids, or return to Mexico City after breakfast.

“Hot air-ballooning over these pyramids at sunrise is a once-in-a-lifetime experience! The hot air balloons don't have doors, so there is some climbing and jumping into the basket involved. It would have also been nice if there were 2 fewer people in each basket, since it felt like we were packed in like sardines in a can. The loss of one star is for the quality of the breakfast buffet, and the long wait once we arrived at the location until we actually got sorted into groups and went off to get on the balloons.
