Finca 18 Puerto Vallarta Tequila Tour + Chocolate Pairing

1.Finca 18 Puerto Vallarta Tequila Tour + Chocolate Pairing

★★★★★★★★★★5.0 · 393 reviews · 2 hours (approx.) · from $89Our pick

At Finca 18, guides including Mario, Greg, Emily, and Alex show you a 12-acre family ranch, agave nursery, ovens, and distillery. You will taste five or more agave spirits with chocolate, guacamole, and ranch-made snacks. The small group setting feels personal, but the ranch is about an hour from central Puerto Vallarta.

“We were looking for a fun off the beaten path experience. This far exceeded our expectations! This is a very small production place. We live in the wine country and only go to small family owned places. This is all of that and more! After a ride out to the ranch in a very cool and comfortable van, we were met by Greg. You will absolutely love him. He’s fun, friendly and so knowledgeable about his craft. You will enjoy agave based spirits much more than you did before, after your time with Greg. Do yourself a favor and add the chocolate pairing to your tasting when you get there.…”

At The Mayan Cacao Company in Cozumel, you learn about cacao, grind beans with a mortar and pestle, add flavorings, and make a chocolate disk to take home. Guides such as Paty, Angel, Eduardo, and Mario lead the session in English, with samples and a shop visit often adding to the hour-and-a-half experience.

“Tour was very informative. We certainly learned a lot, but the movie room and chocolate making room were uncomfortably hot - need better air conditioning. Also, we were under the impression that we would be able to adjust flavors to our chocolate, but this wasn't the case and I couldn't keep the instructor from adding 3 scoops of cinnamon to my chocolate mix despite telling him I don't care for cinnamon. I ended up throwing away half of the chocolate I made because it tasted too much of cinnamon (big surprise)”
